[college woes]
[The first year of college life was a bust, he could say it was because his school was filled with morons and the volleyball team was missing something to make it interesting (or maybe someone?) but the truth of the matter was it was missing one important thing: Oikawa Tooru. Iwaizumi supposed he was lucky because at least Makki and Mattsun were in the same college, but Oikawa was always meant for something better... some place that would make him shine.
Skype calls, texts... face time and phone calls. How the hell could that make up the distance? Can't touch a fucking voice, can't feel the heat from a face chat. It was shitty and he hated it. Seeing each other once in a blue moon for maybe a few days? Also garbage. He thought he could do it, he thought he could let Oikawa go.
But life is funny that way, and Iwaizumi was nothing but stubborn.
So... they came to a compromise. And with both of their part time jobs and college fees out of the way, they managed to find a decent apartment smack dab in the middle of their respective colleges. Sure that meant waking up way too early for morning classes to take the commute into account, but at the end of the day? It was worth it.
...Not like he'd say that out loud. Especially not after a long day made longer still because Oikawa was finishing up a class or practice and it was getting late. He wasn't worried or anything, he just made dinner and it would suck if it got too cold before Oikawa got back, okay?]
so are you coming back sometime tonight or should i just shove dinner in the fridge for whenever you're back.
[Distance was still hard, he supposed. But seeing him daily made up for any strain on the relationship.]

I'LL BE HOME SOON I PROMISE
[It's not often, but sometimes, this particular train time gets paused for ten minutes to avoid an overlap of the whole system - but with Oikawa's stomach rumbling and his knee aching a bit tenderly, with his day overall ending pretty shittily as he had to end his practice earlier than he really wanted and then sit around waiting for this train, all Oikawa wants to do is be home. With Iwa-chan. Preferrably with Iwa-chan verses being home, but that's where Iwaizumi is, so he'll suffer the train trip.
For as much as he might be grumbling about trains, he really does appreciate wholeheartedly how much Iwaizumi worked with him to get this decent sized apartment. He could have just stayed on the dorms, they both could have stayed in their university dorms, but being together .. really felt worth it. From laundry day to shitty convenience store dinners to these homemade meals, he wonders vaguely to himself if he's just downright spoiled. The semester without Iwaizumi in close proximity had been more stressful than he could have imagined. It's different, not having him there to talk to, even if the phones are one thing and skype is another - the physical proximity he had started to lack was what killed Oikawa the most.
By the time the train has pulled into the station and Oikawa has hefted himself home after another ten minutes (thankfully the train stopped close enough that he hopes the food won't be cold), Oikawa keys himself into the apartment with a gleeful I'm hooome Iwa-chaaaaaan singsong and shuffles his shoes off, dumping his bag there in the hallway without caring. He'll get his stuff later, later, maybe two am later.]
Iwa-chaaaaaaan, feed meeeeeeee!

[He was trying to get some studying done, since coursework was simple enough to finish when he got home. But he may have spent most of this time looking at his phone for new texts, or to keep an eye on the time. Iwaizumi wasn't a homebody type, so he already ate and was settled into his evening comfort wear.
This place was just... annoying? without Oikawa's presence filling it.
Ugh. That was so fucking sappy.
SO to knock that shit out Iwaizumi retired to the couch, kaiju movie in the blu-ray and it was the perfect way to pass the time until Oikawa got in.
...And speak of the devil.]
Tch. Feed yourself! Your plate is in the microwave.
[He's not your maid.]

Iwa-chan says that like he didn't even miss meeeee!!! [He knows he does. He just wants to up the antics for a little bit; somehow, being a total brat is just a reflex, a way to talk and want and allow himself to be pampered, because Iwaizumi does that. That pampering fool.]
no subject
But of course he huffs with a half hearted shove.]
How the hell could I miss you? I see you every day!
[But his fingers are in his hair, touch more gentle than his rough tone.]
Go eat, I spent all that time cooking for you it's not going to waste, Shittykawa.

[Rubbing his face into Iwaizumi's chest and tucking himself over him like an oversized blanket, Oikawa goes quiet for a moment just breathing in and out slowly with that feeling of fingers in his hair.]
Let's run away. Let's just run away and go exploring the ends of the world. We could go mountain climbing or run around Europe or backpack across New Zealand. Or we could find submarines and go underwater and look at all the deep sea creatures.
[He means it, but he doesn't at the same time; they can't just up and leave. They've got classes, they've got responsibilities, they've got bills to pay and expectations to meet. It's a nice thought though, something crazy and spontaneous and Oikawa is sure if they did ever go through with something like this, he would have the utmost faith in Iwaizumi that it would be fine. They'd make it, whether it's getting lost or chasing the right bus just to get right back off because they forgot something, crazy things like that.
His knee just aches more than a little at the thought, of going and doing any and everything coming to mind.]

[Grumbled, leaning back so Oikawa can be comfortable with his suffocating draping. But his hand is firm in his hair, carding through the strands in a methodical and soothing manner. A knowledge that comes from knowing someone since childhood, he knew what Oikawa needed without him saying a damn word about his needs.
And he listens, giving a soft scoff at the start.
Running away.
...Had a nice ring to it, didn't it? And Iwaizumi is quiet throughout these 'wildest dreams' of his. And he had to admit, there was something so tantalizing about them, to go travel and explore things before they're stuck and wishing they did something while drinking sake in their mid-40's.]

Iwaizumi knew of people who took a year off from school or work to do crazy things, to live life at it's fullest before adulthood really had them in its grasp.
Backpacking would make it less expensive, and if they chose a year to do it maybe they could save enough for a vacation of some sort?
Finally he let's out a bark of laughter, ruffling Oikawa's hair fondly.]
Sure. Why not?

Iwa-chan?
no subject
Heeh. Even you must be bearing the stress of school and your life with the most handsome and talented man alive~ Don't worry, Oikawa-san is here for you too, Iwa-chan!!
[Smother it down, just don't think into it more, just be happy you get him this much.]
no subject
Because that would mean admitting something.
It would mean he wanted to do this with him, that he wanted to make him happy and it would mean admitting a lot of shit that he came to terms with years ago but never out loud.
So instead he gives him a hard shove and a growl.]
I'm bearing the stress of your stupid ass, Crappykawa. Go eat, or I swear to god I'll shove your supper cold down your ungrateful throat.
no subject
AH!! I've been cast aside, Iwa-chan how could you do this to my beautiful self!!
[Rolling over slowly and picking himself up, Oikawa ends up pausing on his hands and one knee because his bad knee? Just doesn't want to take weight without pain. He laid down, it was a mistake, he shouldn't have laid down, even if it was on Iwaizumi and comfortable as hell. Gritting his teeth with his head turned away so Iwaizumi can't see, Oikawa slowly sets his knee down to start picking himself up with a little grunt.]
no subject
[That fucking knee.
There was no fooling Iwaizumi, of course. He bit back the anger, he wanted to yell and ask why he was pushing himself so goddamn hard, especially with the knee how it is. But... he knew better. Now wasn't the time, and he knew why Oikawa did it anyway.
So, wordlessly, he got to his feet and helped Oikawa back onto the couch. A firm palm on his chest, quietly insisting he lay back. And then very gingerly, as if he were glass, he lifted the bad leg to put a cushion under the knee for some support and elevation.]
...I'll go get your food, idiot.
[Grumbled under his breath as he went to heat up the supper he made. He hated seeing him like that, hated seeing him in pain and being unable to do anything about it.]
no subject
[Oikawa should have known better than to think Iwaizumi wouldn't see him grimacing about his knee, but he didn't expect to get half picked up. Laying back and accepting the care though, knowing there's absolutely no point in fighting it, Oikawa ends up smiling sheepishly and settling into his seat with his knee propped and reaches up to undo his school tie finally.]
Ehehh.. thanks, Iwa-chan. Sorry, I'll explain when you come back.

[There was always that nagging worry that maybe the knee injury was getting worst. Discussing that with him felt like it would only end in denial and tears, because the option of stopping volleyball would be on the table. And... he couldn't bring that up. He was here to build Oikawa up, not break him down.
It's why he bought a gel pack for heat or cold therapy depending on what Oikawa needed. If it's sore, then a minute in the microwave should do it. It was an impulse buy on his way home this afternoon, walking by a sports shop. Every bit helps, right?
So it's a few minutes before he comes back, bowl of beef stir fry in one hand, and a cloth and the heated gel pack in the other.]
Here. Careful, it's a bit hot.
[Giving the food to Oikawa before he gently moves his legs so he can sit and be a cushion for him at the same time. Wordlessly rolling up the correct pant leg so he can drape the cloth over the afflicted knee, then the pad.]
How does that feel?
no subject
[Giving a wide smile when Iwaizumi returns and hands him that bowl of homemade deliciousness, Oikawa patiently waits while he arranges his legs and Iwaizumi takes that seat to properly care for his definitely swollen knee, before he flexes his toes and gives a soft, satisfied hum. It feels nice, it feels like he is warm from the inside out despite the ache that comes from flexing his toes.]
Better, I did take some painkillers before getting on the train, but it is definitely still stiff. Iwa-chan spoils me so well...
no subject
[He didn't even know where in the movie he was, it was all just noise since Oikawa was home. It was easier to focus on the leg than the moving pictures and angry kaiju wreaking havoc on Tokyo (seriously, why do people in these movies still live there? it's like a hot spot for kaiju activity. sounds dangerous.)]
We'll see how you feel before bed, but I'd feel better if you took another couple just in case.
[He'll let the gel pack do it's job as his fingers worked down Oikawa's calf and ankle, massaging the tense muscles thanks to the training Oikawa endured.]
who late, it me...
Bringing his attention down to just watching Iwaizumi's hands and quietly marveling at how he knows how much strength he has and yet he's still so gentle with him, Oikawa starts to eat. He's hungrier than he thought, because after the first few bites, he's eating quickly and quietly, even if his gaze lingers on Iwaizumi's hands.]
